First-term town Mayor Aida Macalinao is hopeful the 4th class municipality will soon become an industrial town.
Macalinao said for instance Barangays Lalawigan and Imelda are being developed to become sites for possible construction of industrial firms in the near future.
“Next year will spell another crucial time for planning and improvement of our system more particularly in economic and livelihood programs,” Macalinao said.
Some areas including more or less 13 hectares of fishpond near Peninsula Electric Cooperative (Penelco) is being eyed as an industrial site.
She said the paper firm which had been operating for decades is no longer viable as major source of income for Samal.
“So we have to move faster now like improving our health services and work for economic recovery,” she explained.
At present, Samal is host to a number of investors including the one that deals with poultry and piggery.
